Containment after N.Korea’s unacceptable provocation
Yesterday, North Korea and South Korea engaged in a tense exchange of artillery fire in the area around Yeonpyeong Island in the West Sea. Over the years, they have engaged in intermittent gun battles and clashes at sea in the vicinity of the Northern Limit Line (NLL) or armistice line. However, the latest attack is unprecedented in that it targeted land rather than sea, and even caused fatalities. The situation is cause for serious concern.
잘못된 ‘연평도 도발’, 상황 악화는 막아야
남북한이 어제 서해 연평도 일대에서 포격전을 벌였다. 남북은 그동안 북방한계선이나 휴전선 일대에서 간혹 총격전을 벌이거나 해상 충돌을 빚었다. 하지만 이번처럼 해상이 아닌 육지를 겨냥해 포격을 가하고 인명 피해까지 발생한 것은 전례없는 일이다. 불안하기 짝이 없다.
