North Korea fired naval artillery shells in the West Sea towards the Northern Limit Line (NLL). Some of them crossed the NLL into our waters. The South Korean military has called it a grave provocation and says it reserves the right to issue a strong response. This is a tense situation that has the potential to turn into an inter-Korean armed conflict.
North Korea had issued verbal condemnations of the joint South Korea-U.S. military exercises, and this time, they raised their response level as warned. The North Korean action has been interpreted as a warning that if another drill is launched near the NLL, it could attack militarily.
남북 모두 군사적 긴장 높이는 행위 중단해야
북한이 서해 북방한계선 쪽으로 해안포를 발사했다. 일부는 남쪽 해역으로 넘어왔다. 우리 군은 중대 도발로 규정하고 강력히 대응하겠다고 한다. 남북간 군사적 충돌로 번질 수도 있는 긴박한 상황이다.
북쪽은 그동안 일련의 한-미 연합군사훈련 등에 대해 말로 비난해오다 이번엔 사전 통고대로 대응 수위를 높였다. 북한의 행동은 앞으로 북방한계선 부근에서 또다른 훈련이 벌어질 경우 군사적으로 공격할 수 있다는 경고로 해석된다.
