The Grand National Party convention, which opened yesterday, was in a word disappointing. There was absolutely no way to understand how President Lee Myung-bak intends to take responsibility in the later part of his term or the direction he will take. At the convention of a ruling party, the candidates for power within the party should hold rigorous debate over their visions for running the country, but it was hard to see anyone presenting alternatives or debating. The calls for reform those in the ruling party scrambled to raise immediately after the party’s defeat in the June 2 local elections completely disappeared.
국정비전 모색 없었던 한나라당 전당대회
어제 열린 한나라당 전당대회는 한마디로 실망스럽다. 이명박 정부 후반기를 어떻게 책임지겠다는 것인지 그 방향을 전혀 알 길이 없었다. 집권당 전당대회라면 당권 후보들이 국정운영의 비전을 놓고 치열한 논쟁을 벌였어야 마땅하지만, 이런 대안 제시도 토론도 찾아보기 어려웠다. 심지어 6·2 지방선거 패배 직후 앞다퉈 제기됐던 여권 쇄신론도 전면에서 사라져버리고 말았다.
