Seoul City’s plan to build an international port on the waterfront of the Han River Park on Yeouido Island is entering full swing. The administration reportedly voted in a Cabinet meeting last week on an amendment to the Harbor Act enforcement decree designating the Yeouido waterfront and the neighboring waters of the Han River as “the Port of Seoul.” However, the construction of an international port on Yeouido not only fails to offer any practical benefits economically, but carries with it the possibility of environmental devastation as well, as it requires deep dredging into the river bottom.
여의도 국제항 건설, 현실성도 경제성도 없다
서울 여의도 한강공원 둔치에 국제항구를 만들겠다는 서울시 계획이 본격 추진되고 있다. 정부는 이를 위해 지난주 열린 국무회의에서 여의도 둔치와 둔치 앞 한강수역을 ‘서울항’으로 지정하는 항만법 시행령 개정안을 의결했다고 한다. 하지만 여의도에 국제항구를 건설한다는 건 경제적 실익도 없을 뿐 아니라 강바닥을 깊게 파헤쳐야 하는 등 환경파괴 가능성도 적잖다.
