Following on the heels of the discovery that public officials at Seoul’s Yangcheon and Yongsan District Offices kept subsidy money intended for the disabled, public officials in Haenam, Jeollanam-do, and Chuncheon, Gangwon-do, were caught appropriating money intended for low-income earners, the elderly and the disabled. Seeing this kind of corruption confirmed in the auditing of some regions, one cannot help wondering if the situation will be any different in others.
시급한 복지전달체계와 감사 개혁
장애인에게 갈 보조금을 빼돌려 가로챈 서울 양천구청과 용산구청 공무원이 적발된 데 이어 전남 해남과 강원 춘천에서도 저소득층과 노인·장애인들에게 가야 할 돈을 착복한 공무원들이 적발됐다. 일부 지역 감사에서 이런 비리가 확인된 것을 보면 다른 지역이라고 다를까 하는 의심이 들지 않을 수 없다.
