Pakistan’s President Pervez Musharraf has announced his resignation. It was the first time a Pakistani president has stepped down voluntarily, even if he was forced by the situation, namely impending impeachment by parliament. Musharraf should be credited for his decision, saying he did not want further confrontation with parliament, this in a country stained with bloody political fights, political corruption, and military coups.
무샤라프 사임, 파키스탄 민주화 계기 되길
페르베즈 무샤라프 파키스탄 대통령이 그제 사임을 발표했다. 의회의 탄핵에 직면한 상황에서 어쩔 수 없는 선택이었다 하더라도 집권자가 스스로 권력을 내놓은 것은 파키스탄 역사상 처음 있는 일이다. 피비린내 나는 정쟁, 정치권의 부패와 군부쿠데타로 점철된 파키스탄에서 “의회와의 대립이 더 심화되는 것을 원치 않는다”며 물러선 그의 태도는 평가할 만하다.
