Eleven South Korean government officials withdrew from the inter-Korean cooperation liaison office in Gaeseong (Kaesong) yesterday, at the demand of North Korea. This makes it the first action on the part of Pyongyang in response to South Korean President Lee Myung-bak’s North Korea policy, and it would seem inevitable that there is going to be a hardening of relations for some time to come. Still, Lee’s administration makes it clear it intends to push ahead with a hard-line policy toward Pyongyang. Part of this is some early wrangling between the two sides as they get used to each other, but it is undesirable for both North and South Korea.
퇴행적 대북정책이 부른 ‘개성 정부 인력 철수’
개성 남북경제협력협의사무소(경협사무소)에 상주하던 남쪽 정부 인력 11명 전원이 북쪽 요구로 어제 철수했다. 이는 이명박 정부의 대북정책과 관련해 북쪽이 취한 첫 조처로, 상당 기간 남북관계 경색이 불가피할 듯하다. 하지만 정부는 강경기조 대북정책을 밀고나갈 뜻을 밝히고 있다. 정권 초기 기싸움이라는 성격이 있지만, 남북 두루 바람직하지 않은 상황이다.
