In his first press conference of the new year, President-elect Lee Myung-bak talked about “change” amidst “unity.” We think those are words that will be needed by Lee’s administration. If Korea’s demand of it is that it breathes life into the economy and creates the conditions for change, then something else it wants from him, and worries about, is that he will not go to unreasonable extremes and not set about hastily trying to establish accomplishments in a short period of time.
고민 느껴지나 부족한 이 당선인 현실인식
이명박 대통령 당선인은 어제 새해 회견에서 ‘화합 속의 변화’를 강조했다. 새 정부에 필요한 말이 아닐까 생각한다. 경제에 활력을 불어넣고 변화의 여건을 만들어내라는 게 이명박 정부에 대한 국민의 주문이라면, 무리하게 독주하지 말고 단기간의 실적에 급급하지 말아야 한다는 것 또한 이명박 정부에 대한 당부와 우려일 것이다.
