As of Monday it has been one hundred days since the new law on irregular employees took effect. Some say it is still too early to make an assessment. The situation that has become apparent so far, however, suggests otherwise, because there continue to be instances where the law is being abused in ways that mock its intent. The key goals of the legislation were twofold. The idea was to stop the discrimination irregular workers face in comparison to full employees, and to gradually reduce the number of Koreans with irregular positions by requiring employers to hire their irregulars as regular employees after they have been employed for two years.
비정규직, 노사정ㆍ시민사회 연석회의로 풀자
비정규직법이 시행된 지 어제로 꼭 100일째다. 평가를 하기엔 아직 이르지 않으냐는 견해도 있다. 하지만 지금껏 드러난 상황은 그렇지 않다. 법의 취지가 뿌리째 흔들리는 상황이 속출하고 있기 때문이다. 이 법의 핵심적 목표는 두 가지였다. 비정규직이란 이유로 정규직에 견줘 차별하는 것을 막고, 2년 이상 근무하면 정규직으로 전환하게 해 비정규직을 줄여 나간다는 게 그것이다.
