Jeju Store owners called for the local government to withdraw its decision to grant Lotte Mart operations in Jeju. Jeju Merchant Association, made up of people who own stores in Chilseongno, Jungang underground shopping center, Jungangno and Sinjeju area, conveyed its proposal to Governor Kim Tae-whan on the afternoon of March 6. The association urged the local government to take special measures to prevent Lotte Mart from opening its business in Jeju, claiming that it should pursue policies to promote more balanced development between small and midsize retail businesses and large discount retailers, instead of unilaterally allowing Lotte Mart's operations which threaten the livelihood of the smaller retailers in Jeju.
상인연합회,롯데마트 입점 철회 촉구
제주시 상인들이 롯데마트 입점 추진 철회를 촉구하고 나섰다. 제주칠성로상점가진흥협동조합, 제주중앙지하상가상인회, 제주중앙로상가번영회, 신제주상가번영회 등으로 구성된 제주시상점가상인연합회는 6일 오후 롯데마트 입점 추진 철회를 요구하는 건의문을 도지사에게 전달했다.상인연합회는 “제주도는 중소상인들의 삶을 황폐화시키는 롯데마트 입점을 일방적으로 허용할 것이 아니라 중소유통업과의 균형적인 발전을 꾀할 수 있는 정책을 추진해야 한다”며 롯데마트 제주입점이 철회될 수 있도록 제주도가 특단의 조치를 취해 줄 것을 촉구했다.
