The U.N. Security Council carried a resolution on North Korea including permissions to search North Korean vessels and strong economic sanctions on the North by a unanimous vote. The Council adopted the resolution at general conference on Oct 14 based on chapter 7 of the U.N. Charter that includes stern economic sanctions, while ruling out military sanctions. The resolution came just 6 days after the North carried out a nuclear test. Prior to this, members of the U.N. Security Council and Japan had a closed meeting to settle key disputes this morning.
대북 결의안 만장일치 통과
북한의 선박을 검문ㆍ검색할 수 있고 강력한 경제제재를 담고 있는 유엔 안보리의 대북결의안이 만장일치로 통과됐다.
유엔 안보리는 14일 오후 (현지시간) 전체회의를 열어 북한에 군사적 제재를 배제했지만 강력한 경제적 제재를 골자로 하는 유엔 헌장 7장을 근간으로하는 대북결의를 만장일치로 채택했다.
북한이 핵실험을 한지 6일만에 안보리 대북결의안이 통과된 것이다. 안보리 상임이사국들과 일본은 이에 앞서 이날 오전에 비공개 회의를 열어 막판 쟁점을 조율했다. 《본지 10월 16일자 》
