The whole Jeju community including civic groups is alarmed at a government’s decision that Jeju will be the venue for the fourth round of the South Korea-U.S. free trade agreement(FTA) beginning from Oct 23. In particular, Jeju citizens cannot dispel anxiety about the talks when they are worried about the issues on opening the orange market due to the U.S.’ strong demand for opening the domestic agricultural market. The upcoming round will be held at the Shilla Jeju hotel and Hyatt Regency Jeju hotel in Jungmun Tourist Resort Complex, Seogwipo-si, beginning 23 of next month.
4차 한ㆍ미 FTA협상 서귀 중문단지 개최 … 각계 강력 반발
정부가 내달 23일부터 27일까지 열리는 한·미 FTA 4차 본협상 장소로 제주를 결정하자 도내 시민사회단체들이 반발하는 등 도민사회 전반에 반대 기류가 요동치고 있다.
특히 도민들은 미국측이 우리나라에 농산물수입개방을 강도 높게 요구, 가뜩이나 ‘감귤개방문제’로 불안해하고 있는 상황에서 한ㆍ미 FTA가 제주에서 열려 불안을 떨치지 못하고 있다.
한·미 FTA 4차 본협상은 내달 23일부터 4일간 서귀포시 중문 관광단지 신라호텔과 하얏트 호텔에서 열린다.
