About thirty people were injured as tens of thousands of people crowded in Lotte World amusement park where a free admission promotion was held. Happening in one of the nation’s top entertainment facilities, the accident directly showed Korean citizens’ unawareness over safety.
That is, it only seems to reveal a bald fact that as for public order, Korea has not emerged from backwardness.
First of all, the blame has to be laid on the Lotte world side for its insincerity.
Although this event was originally designed to express an apology for its previous incident, it is said that Lotte did not request support for police force in preparation for another incident.
It was an anticipated incident in that large crowds would gather in a narrow space simultaneously.
However, Lotte ignore the possibility of an accident, a typical safety unawareness.
Although it was obvious that a large number of people would simultaneously gather in a cramped area, At least, Lotte should have found ways such as internet draw to arrange the crowds at different times.
It is comforting that it was not a large accident, like the one had happened at Sangju last year, taking 11 lives.
We need to look back on our awareness over the public order.
In fact, there is sensible improvement in citizens’ overall spirit of observing the public order, compared with the past.
We can see many people receive waiting number tickets and stand in a queue.
However, we still have long way to go.
We should intensify education on maintaining orders from the kindergarten so as to make people realize that the order is convenient and good for themselves.
언제까지 후진국형 안전사고인가
롯데월드 무료개장 행사에 수만 명의 시민이 몰리면서 30여 명이 다치는 어처구니없는 사고가 일어났다.
수도 서울, 이 나라 유수의 위락시설에서 벌어진 이번 사고는 우리의 안전불감증과 시민의식 수준을 단적으로 보여줬다.
안전과 질서에 관한 한 아직 후진국이라는 사실이 다시 적나라하게 드러난 셈이다.
우선 롯데 측의 대처가 너무 안이했다.
이번 행사는 자체 안전사고에서 비롯된 일종의 사과성 이벤트였다.
그럼에도 안전사고에 대비하라는 경찰의 공문을 무시하고, 경찰력 지원을 요청하지 않았다고 한다.
좁은 공간에 인파가 한꺼번에 몰릴 것이 뻔한 상황인데도, ‘설마…’하는 생각이 빚은 전형적인 안전 불감증이다.
최소한 인터넷 추첨 등을 통해 인파를 분산시키기라도 했어야 했다.
지난해 가을 11명이 압사한 상주 참사 같은 대형 사고가 일어나지 않은 게 그나마 다행이다.
우리의 질서의식도 되돌아볼 필요가 있다.
물론 대기번호 뽑기나 한줄 서기 등으로 전보다 나아진 건 사실이다.
그러나 아직 고쳐야 할 점이 많다. 외국처럼 유치원부터 질서교육을 강화해 ‘질서는 편하고 좋은 것’이란 사실이 몸에 배도록 해야 한다.
또 차제에 ‘공짜 심리’를 이용해 사람들을 동원하고 생색을 내보려는 식의 이벤트도 다시 생각해 봐야 한다.
이번 같은 후진국형 사고를 졸업하지 못하면 1인당 국민소득이 3만 달러를 넘어도 선진국은 될 수 없다.
