With the winter poaching season for migrating birds coming up, Jeju plans to fully clamp down on all the poaching and smuggling activities. Jeju will intensively crack down mainly on poaching in crime-ridden districts, supplementary health food stores and stuffed item manufacturers.
Jeju will impose penalties on poaching offenders, charging them and then following through with criminal prosecution.
The number of offenders detected for poaching last year totaled 38, with 5 out of the 38 being arrested. This year alone, 11 poaching offenders were detected in Jeju and 5 have been arrested.
야생조수 밀렵 단속
제주도는 겨울 철새 밀렵철을 맞아 유관기관과 합동으로 겨울철 야생조수 밀렵 및 밀거래 행위에 대한 일제단속을 벌일 계획이라고 23일 밝혔다.
제주도는 이에 따라 24일부터 내달 30일까지 2차례에 거쳐 도 일원 밀렵우범지역과 건강원 및 박제품 제작업소 등을 중심으로 집중단속을 벌이기로 했다.
제주도는 이번에 적발된 밀렵사범들에 대해서는 형사고발과 함께 과태료 등을 부과할 계획이다.
한편 지난해 야생조수 및 밀렵행위로 적발된 밀렵사범은 모두 38명으로 이들 가운데 5명은 구속됐다.
올 들어 제주지역에서는 11명의 밀렵사범이 적발돼 이들 가운데 5명이 구속됐다.
