Elementary school students in Jeju have been found to utilize the internet for playing games rather than for learning, highlighting the necessity for fundamental knowledge in computers and ethics education.
Donam Elementary School, designated by Jeju Province Education Office as a trial school for ICT (Information and Communication Technology), recently investigated the current situation by surveying respondents from the entire student population (1646 students) before the school begins the trial program.
The result of the survey shows that 96% of the students possess a computer in their homes, showing that educational infrastructure for ICT application is already in place.
However, it turns out that only 17% of students utilize their computer for learning. On the contrary, more than 66% of students use the internet for games, which tells us that relevant education is urgently needed.
초등생 인터넷 "역시 게임"
도내 초등학생들이 인터넷을 학습에 활용하기보다는 주로 게임에 사용하는 것으로 나타났다. 이에 따라 컴퓨터 소양교육 및 정보통신 윤리교육의 필요성이 제기되고 있다.
‘제주도교육청 지정 ICT(정보통신기술)활용 시범학교’인 도남초등학교는 최근 시범학교 운영에 앞서 전교생(1646명)을 대상으로 ICT관련 실태조사를 실시했다.
조사 결과, 전교생의 96% 가정에서 컴퓨터를 보유, ICT활용 교육기반이 우수한 것으로 나타났다.
그러나 컴퓨터를 학습에 활용하는 학생은 17%에 불과한 것으로 조사됐다. 반면에 절반이 훨씬 넘는 66%가 게임에 사용하는 것으로 나타나 관련교육이 절실한 것으로 지적되고 있다.
