The Jeju Coast Guard (JCG) seized 5 Chinese fishing vessels that were operating illegally within the EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone) of Korea’s territorial waters on the 24th of October.
The JCG said that 5 Chinese fishing vessels including the Yo wa-aw (#55109, 184t) were seized 81.5km offshore of the South-eastern part of Pyosun in Namjeju-gun (within 15km of Korea’s EEZ) at 10:25 on the morning of October 24th . They were operating illegally within Korea’s EEZ without correctly recording so in their ship’s log.
The Jeolyoungaw (#23167, 140t) was detected operating without a permit 170.3km away from western part of Biyang Island in Hanrip, Bukjeju-gun (4.6km within Korea’s EEZ).
The Jeju Maritime Police will investigate details of illegal operation thoroughly from captains as soon as they are captured.
The JCG said that they have seized 109 Chinese fishing vessels operating illegally this year.
불법조업 中 어선 어제 5척 나포
제주해양경찰서는 24일 우리 나라 배타적 경제수역에서 불법 조업한 중국어선 5척을 적발해 제주항으로 나포했다.
제주해경에 따르면 대련선적 요와어 55109호(184t) 등 5척은 이날 오전 10시 25분께 남제주군 표선면 남동쪽 81.5km(우리측 EEZ내 15km) 해상 등에서 조업일지를 제대로 작성하지 않고 조업한 혐의(EEZ법 위반)로 나포됐다.
또 온령선적 절영어23167호(140t)는 이날 오전 10시 30분께 북제주군 한림읍 비양도 서쪽 170.3km(우리측 EEZ내 4.6km) 해상에서 무허가로 조업하다 적발됐다.
제주해경은 나포 즉시 선장 등을 상대로 정확한 불법 조업 경위를 조사할 방침이다.
한편 제주해경이 올해 불법 조업하다 적발한 중국어선은 109척이다.
