Opposition to KCTV Subscription Fee Raise
The National Council of Consumer Organization (NCCO) in Jeju (Joint Directors Im Kang-ja and Ko Soon-sang) announced its stand against the plan for a subscription fee increase by KCTV (Korea Cable TV) Jeju Broadcasting on August 26.
According to the statement issued by NCCO, it insisted “the theory that KCTV needs to raise the fee because of the financial difficulties is not enough to persuade consumers. After all, KCTV is trying to shift management responsibilities onto consumers.”
KCTV has decided to raise the subscription fees from 5,000 Won to 7,000 Won starting September 1st. NCCO said that the decision made by KCTV to raise the fee because of an increase in 6 unpopular channels lacks logic and demanded KCTV Jeju Broadcasting withdraw its subscription fee increase plan.
“KCTV 시청료 인상 반대”
제주도소비자단체협의회(공동대표 임강자.고순생)는 26일 KCTV제주방송 요금인상에 대한 입장을 발표, KCTV 제주방송의 시청료 인상계획에 대해 반대한다고 밝혔다.
소비자단체협의회는 이날 낸 발표문에서 “KCTV제주방송이 경영상 어려움을 겪고 있다고 하여 가격인상이 필요하다는 논리는 소비자들을 설득시키기에 충분하지 않다“면서 “이는 결국 (경영책임)을 소비자에게 전가시키는 것”이라고 주장했다.
소비자단체협의회는 또 “비인기 채널(6개) 증가를 이유로 9월1일부터 시청료를 월 5000원에서 7000원으로 인상키로 한 것은 논리적 타당성이 부족하다”면서 KCTV제주방송에 대해 시청료 인상계획 철회를 요구했다
