It is a bit late that agricultural education for farmers is breaking into the information age. Nevertheless, it should be welcomed as a natural trend.
The Namjejugun Agriculture and Technology Center (NATC) announced that it will open an online farming course and provide farming information services that help farmers learn about agricultural technology online at their convenience.
Farmers are very familiar with the internet, because they routinely sell products to customers in cities through the e-commerce system in rural areas.
The icing on the cake is that the opening of the course will give farmers a hands-on opportunity through the online system to develop their skills at a pace and time that is convenient and become agricultural experts.
Unlike other information, agricultural information only becomes meaningful when farmers put newly learned skills into practice in the field.
For this reason, the cyber farming course provided by NATC is expected to make a great contribution to strengthening agricultural competitiveness in an age of open economies by spreading new skills quickly and helping to put them into practice.
The 5 month course for 50 applicants will run from now until November 14th. Divided into two units, Orange Cultivation Technology and Environmentally Friendly Farming, the lectures mainly consist of producing high quality oranges, learning technology for late picking orange cultivation, and improving the distribution structure of agricultural products.
The online farming course needs to expand the number of trainees and education courses so that the course will be utilized as another learning space and be worthy of its name in today’s 21st century knowledge and information age. If so, the center will play a key role in solving farmer’s technological problems in the field and nurturing professional farm management experts through the online course.
사이버 영농교육 확대 필요하다
농업인들의 영농교육도 인터넷을 이용한 사이버 시대에 돌입했음은 늦은 감이 없지 않으나 당연한 시대의 추세로 환영할 일이다.
보도를 보면 남제주군농업기술센터는 농업인들이 시간과 공간의 제약을 받지 않고 온라인을 통해 농업기술을 효과적으로 습득할 수 있는 사이버 영농강좌를 개설해 영농정보 서비스를 제공하기로 했다는 것이다.
농촌에서도 이미 생산된 농산물을 인터넷 전자상거래를 통해 도시 사람들에게 판매하는 일이 다반사로 돼 있기 때문에 농업인들에 있어 인터넷은 조금도 낯설지 않다.
여기에 일손이 바쁜 농업인들이 가장 편리한 시간에 가장 편한 장소에서 가상의 공간을 통해 능력을 계발하고 농업전문인력으로 양성될 수 있는 체계적인 교육과정이 개설됐으니 금상첨화가 아닐 수 없다.
사실 농업정보는 다른 오락정보와 달리 농업인이 새로운 기술을 자신의 영농현장에 실천으로 옮길 때에만 의미가 있는 것이다. 그런 면에서 남군 농기센터의 사이버 영농강좌는 새로운 기술을 신속히 전파함으로 하여 영농현장에서 실행할 수 있다는 점에서 개방화 시대의 농업 경쟁력 강화에도 크게 이바지할 것으로 기대된다.
이번 실시되는 사이버 영농강좌는 이 달부터 11월 14일까지 5개월 간 수강자 모집을 통해 신청한 50명을 감귤재배기술과정과 친환경 농업과정으로 구분해 감귤 고품질 생산기술, 만감류 재배 신기술, 농산물 유통구조 개선의 내용으로 짜여져 있다.
남군의 사이버 영농강좌가 명실상부한 21세기 지식정보화 시대의 또 다른 학습장으로 활용될 수 있게 하기 위해서는 교육수강 인원이나 교육과정을 확대할 필요가 있다. 그렇게 되면 이를 통해 농업인의 현장 애로기술을 해결하고 전문농업경영인을 육성하는 산실로서의 역할을 다할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.
