Garbage Disposal System Should be Settled

There is a saying that Jeju city fails to establish the volume-rate garbage disposal system which has been enforced since 1995, although it has reached substantial development in environmental polices such as introducing Korea’s first ‘Clean House’, compared with other local governments’ performances.  Last year out of 422 violations of garbage collection regulations, illegal cases of dumping waste without using standard garbage bags were 359, amounting to 85%.
This proves that Jeju residents’ awareness relating to volume-rate disposal system has not been settled yet. Regarding this matter, 
the authorities concerned stressed, “The number of illegal garbage dumping is significantly dropping thanks to setting prize money on report of offenders” and added, “Jeju city will widen public relations activities in order to enhance people’s awareness of the volume-rate disposal system.”

쓰레기종량제 시책정착 요원

전국 최초로 클린하우스 도입 등 제주시의 환경시책이 타 자치단체에 비해 많은 발전을 이루었음에도 불구하고 1995년부터 시행된 쓰레기종량제 시책은 아직도 정착되지 못하고 있다는 분석.
지난해 제주시 불법쓰레기 적발건수 422건 가운데 규격봉투 미상용 쓰레기 배출행위는 359건으로 전체 85%에 달해 아직도 쓰레기 종량제에 시민의식이 완전히 정착되고 않고 있음을 반증.
제주시 관계자는 이에 대해 “신고자에 대한 신고포상금 지급제도 등으로 불법쓰레기 배출행위는 크게 줄고 있다”고 강조하며 “앞으로 쓰레기종량제에 대한 시민의식 제고를 위한 홍보활동을 강화해 나가겠다”고 언급.
