88 killed, 280 injured

A stampede at a stadium in Philippines killed 88 people and injured about 280 people. This large-scale accident happened in the stadium located in the suburb of Manila, the capital, in the morning of Feb. 4. The accident occurred while some 40,000 people were lining up in order to watch a game show organized by ABC-CBN TV network. It was reported that most of the casualties were women, who were run against iron gates or crushed to death under a huge crowd.

필리핀의 한 경기장에서 압사사고가 발생해 88명이 숨지고 2백 80여명이 부사당하는 참사가 발생했다. 4일 오전 필리핀 수도 마닐라 교외의 한 경기장에서 대형 압사사고가 발생했다. 이날 사고는 현지 방송사인 ABC-CBN TV 네트워크가 주관하는 게임쇼를 관람하기 위해서 4만 여명이 줄을 서서 기다리던 중 발생했다. 이 사고로 88명이 숨지고 2백 80여명이 다치는 등 대부분 여성 관객들이 철제문에 부딪치거나 압사한 것으로 전해졌다.
