Festival Designation Draws Attention

All the attention has been focused on whether the Jeongwol Daeboreum Fire Festival hosted by Bukjejugun will be selected as an official culture and tourism festival.  Bukjejugun said on the 9th of July that it submitted the application for designation of the 2006 festival to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on the 1st of July.     

The fire festival is a candidate festival designated by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and is a strong representative folk festival because it is the only festival in the world which is about oreums and fire.

Bukjejugun insisted that the fire festival should be designated as an official 2006 Festival, emphasizing that official designation will attract tourists to Jeju during the 2006 Year of Visit Jeju.   Doing so will also help Bukjejugun host a successful 10th Anniversary Fire Festival next year.

문화관광축제 선정여부 관심

북제주군 정월대보름들불축제가 문화관광축제로 선정될지 귀추가 주목된다.
북군은 정월대보름들불축제를 2006년 지정축제 신청서를 지난 1일 문광부에 제출했다고 9일 밝혔다.

북군에 따르면 들불축제는 2005년도 문화관광부지정 예비축제인데다 세계적으로 유일하게 오름과 불을 소재로 한 차별화된 제주의 대표적 향토축제로 한국을 상징하는 축제로 손색이 없다.

북군은 내년이 제주방문의 해로 지정된 만큼 관광객 유치를 위한 축제이벤트가 중요한 상황이라는 점과 특히 내년으로써 제 10회를 맞는 들불축제를 더욱 화려하고 웅장하게 치러내겠다는 개최의지를 통해 선정 당위성을 주장했다.
