50 thousand won negligence fine for no safety helmet

In workplaces like constructionsites, workers caught not wearing safety helmets will have a negligence fine immediately imposed.  To reduce construction site accidents, the Labor Office announced on the 31st of this month that it would immediately impose a 50 thousand won negligence fine on any worker discovered without safety helmets, belts or boots on worksites where there are hazards such as falling objects or working at heights.

In addition, when an employer has not provided protection equipment including safety helmets, they are liable for a prison term of up to 5 years or a 50 million won fine. The Labor Office used to impose a negligence fine only on a second offence after first giving a warning to the workers who were working unprotected.

안전모 미착용 과태료 5만원

건축 공사장 등 사업장에서 안전모 미착용시 근로자는 즉시 과태료가 부과된다.노동부는 근로현장의 안전사고를 줄이기 위해 추락이나 물체 낙하 등의 위험이 있는 사업장에서 안전모, 안전대, 안전화를 착용하지 않는 근로자가 적발되면 즉시 5만원의 과태료를 부과한다고 31일 밝혔다.
또 사업주가 안전모 등 보호장구를 지급하지 않았을 때에는 5년 이하의 징역 또는 5000만원 이하의 벌금이 부과된다.종전에는 안전모 등 보호장구를 미착용한 근로자에 대해서는 1차 경고 후 2차 적발시 과태료를 부과하도록 됐다.
한편 제주지방노동사무소는 근로자들의 보호장구 착용 생활화와 사업주의 보호장구 지급 의무 등 안전보건 조치사항을 홍보ㆍ계도하기 위해 지난주 노형지구 택지개발지역 및 도남동 시민복지타운 공사현장에서 ‘보호장구 착용 캠페인’을 벌였다. <제주 타임즈 2005년 6월 1일자>
